What exactiy are the European Championships? There are lots of football competitions around the world, so if you'er not a football fanatic you minght get a littlt confused. The European Championships is for international teams from Europe , for exanple,England,Italy and Germany-not cuib sides like Man Utd , or AC Milan . The first European Championships were held in 1960 and was won by the Soviet Union. The Championships have been held every four years since then (making Euro 2004 the 12th competiton). Every country in Europe enters a team; they all play in a qualification competition with the 16 best teams making ti through to the finals.
